What is the Annual Cargo Coverage Program? + -
Our Annual Cargo Coverage Program provides businesses with year-round, all-risk protection for goods in transit. Instead of purchasing coverage shipment by shipment, clients secure a pre-approved annual policy with defined per-shipment and aggregate limits. This ensures predictable costs, streamlined declarations, and peace of mind for every load.
Who issues the insurance coverage? + -
Stratton Global Risk (SGR) is not an insurer. We act as a licensed facilitator, giving our clients direct access to international cargo insurance markets. Policies are underwritten and issued through our brokerage partners and their global insurance networks. This model allows us to provide competitive pricing and broad coverage without being tied to a single carrier.
What risks are covered? + -
The Annual Program provides all-risk coverage, which typically protects against:
- Loss or damage due to theft, pilferage, or misdelivery
- Damage from handling, loading, and unloading
- Marine perils such as heavy weather, stranding, or sinking
- Fire, collision, overturn, or derailment in inland transit
- General Average contributions
Exclusions and conditions may apply, which will be clearly stated in each policy.
How does the declaration process work? + -
Clients enrolled in the Annual Program are required to declare shipments at least 48 hours prior to dispatch through the SGR Declaration Portal. Once declared, our operations team reviews the submission and a shipment certificate is issued under your annual policy. Declarations ensure compliance with program terms and activate coverage for each shipment.
What are the coverage limits? + -
- Per-Shipment Limit: up to $500,000 USD (standard; higher limits available on request)
- Aggregate Annual Limit (AAL): based on projected annual shipping volumes and agreed at policy inception
Both limits are fixed within the annual agreement to provide clarity and financial certainty.
Who should consider the Annual Program? + -
This program is ideal for:
- Importers, exporters, and freight forwarders with regular shipments
- Businesses moving fragile, high-value, or time-sensitive cargo
- Companies seeking predictable premiums and simplified administration
- Organizations that want coverage certainty rather than negotiating one-off certificates
How are premiums structured? + -
Premiums are calculated using shipment values, volumes, and commodity type. The annual cost is broken into monthly installments, with a minimum monthly premium required to maintain program access. This structure balances affordability with comprehensive protection.
What happens if a claim arises? + -
In the event of loss or damage, clients submit claims directly through SGR. Our dedicated claims division coordinates with underwriters and adjusters to ensure fair and efficient settlement. Most claims are resolved within 14–21 business days, subject to documentation and investigation.
What is SGR’s role? + -
SGR’s role is to:
- Provide clients access to wholesale cargo insurance markets
- Facilitate annual program enrollment and ongoing declarations
- Ensure compliance with coverage terms and timelines
- Support clients through the claims process
SGR is not an insurance company. Policies are issued through global brokerage and underwriting partners who specialize in marine and cargo risk.
